The Horned Serpent, or Hanodaganears, is a complex and abstract being that transcends conventional physical forms and dimension |

Washington orchestrates his initial move by infiltrating the dreams of Ferdinand de Lesseps. Through relentless torment, he manipulates de Lesseps into pursuing the construction of the Suez Canal. |
Once the canal is completed, Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi designs the Statue of Progress. Unbeknownst to Bartholdi, his creation ultimately becomes a vessel for one of Washington's appendages, which emerges from within the earth. |

On Ellis Island in New York City, another part of Washington surfaces from underground. The current President of the United States of America, Ulysses S. Grant, learns of this development and decides to confine this entity within the yet-to-be-constructed Statue of Liberty. Grant discovers that the being to which this appendage belongs is a Founding Father, whom he refers to as the "Horned Serpent" or "Hanodaganears." As the statue's construction progresses, Grant negotiates with the French architects to advocate for various pedestal sizes to accommodate the infinitely stretching form of the Serpent. |

On December 25, 1913, the inflamed lung of the Serpent protrudes from the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty, causing the statue to topple and collapse. |

During the Great War, the United States discovers another limb of the Serpent and kills it, intending to use its skull to power a weapon known as the "Anti-Airship Death Ray". |

In 1949, in response to the 1913 incident, the U.S. undertakes significant renovations to the Statue of Liberty's pedestal, primarily to improve access to sustenance and to install a mechanism for the potential relocation of the Serpent's appendage. |

In the summer of 1954, immigrants arriving at Ellis Island are met with a noxious, decomposing odor intensified by the sweltering heat. While most are granted entry into the city, some are escorted by officers to the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty, where they are fed to the entity confined within the statue, further exacerbating the stench. These events ultimately lead to the permanent closure of Ellis Island's immigration facilities in November of that year. |
In 1960, Maize Machines is founded by Rob Careers and Rob Watroba. Over the next eleven years, the company expands its facilities across the U.S., strategically positioning them above the Serpent to harness its power for advanced technological development. In 1972, Maize partners with the Department of Defense to launch "Project Horned Serpent", the first system designed to manage the True Forces of Mass Destruction. However, in 1980, the project is sabotaged following an attack in Las Vegas, where numerous Special Trees erupt from the ground, leading to the "Unification of 1980". |
In August 1985, the Statue of Liberty suddenly shifts to the side, allowing the portion of the Serpent contained within the pedestal to emerge, simultaneously with the one hidden within the Statue of Progress. After its departure, dubbed by the public as "Libertylurker," a team of "Cthonauts" is assigned to explore the area beneath the monument's base. Their investigations uncover a gateway to the Horned Serpent Metastructure. |

In 2003, while investigating an abandoned Maize facility in Pennsylvania, Maya and Nathaniel Arnoldson discover a hidden cave. Deep within, they stumble upon a chamber that houses a part of the Serpent, inadvertently awakening it. |

The Great Divison |
On February 22, 2022, the Air Force One Angel clashes with the Statue of Freedom, resulting in significant damage to the Earth's crust. This upheaval allows the Serpent to escape, tearing reality apart. Special Trees, detached from the Serpent, morph into Cornerworlds. This cataclysmic event is referred to by the remaining sentient life as the "Great Division". Following the Great Division, the Serpent manages to infiltrate a new universe, only to meet its untimely demise, leaving behind its disfigured skull on the beaches of Normandy. |

Other Timelines |
In a splinter timeline created by the Angel's victory over Freedom and their subsequent choice to scatter their ashes, the Serpent remains trapped on Earth. This outcome results from manipulating the Angel's past thoughts and actions, creating a scenario in which the Serpent remains confined. |
In 2024, Riley Tillon ventures into the Cornerworld and finds himself in Cthonaut A's Gallery. After a brief exchange, Cthonaut A decides to enhance his collection by adding monuments, acquiring the Statue of Liberty from an alternate universe. This triggers the emergence of that universe's Libertylurker from its pedestal. |
